ST.PETERSBURG , October 29 (Itar-Tass) - A flood warning in St. Petersburg has been called off, the head of the north Russian city's emergency department EMERCOM told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The Neva river's water level will rise by 110-140 centimetres throughout the day. The St. Petersburg network of flood protection facilities (KZS) was fully closed at 9.40am local time on Tuesday. By Tuesday afternoon, the water level in the Neva in the area of the Mining Institute, a control monitoring point of the Hydrometeorology Centre, was 78 centimetres above the norm, while outside the protective dike. The water level was one metre higher. If it had not been for the dike, St. Petersburg would have registered the 310th flooding in succession, the KZS administration said.

Strong winds have caused rolling power supply cuts in the Leningrad region. By Tuesday noon, power supply had been cut off to 238 settlements with an overall population of more than 13,000. More than 20 teams from the LenEnergo energy enterprise equipped with 30 units of repair equipment have been at work.
